With the Shimano SPD-SL cleats SM-SH11 the foot has a lateral float of 6°, which is the maximum under the SPD-SL cleats. Of course, the SM-SH11 were optimally matched to work with the corresponding Shimano shoes. Contact points counteract wear when walking.
